Pebble vs plaster vs quartz
Your pool's interior finish affects how it looks, feels and how often it needs resurfacing.
| Finish | Look & feel | Durability |
|---|---|---|
| Plaster | Smooth, classic white | Least expensive; shortest life, especially with unbalanced water |
| Quartz | Smooth with color options | More durable than plaster |
| Pebble (e.g., PebbleTec-style) | Natural textured look; slightly rough underfoot | Most durable; resists staining and etching |
Balanced water extends the life of any finish. Use a stainless brush on plaster and a nylon brush on pebble and other finishes, unless your finish maker says otherwise.
Recommended supplies
- Pool brush (stainless for plaster, nylon for pebble/vinyl) — Weekly brushing prevents algae.
- Drop-based pool test kit (FAS-DPD) — More accurate chlorine and hardness readings.
- Scale & stain preventer — Helps keep calcium in solution.
